Dr. Denise Hayes, PHD

Selecting a counselor that you feel comfortable speaking with is vital to your counseling goals. I'll share some info to help you determine if you would like to follow-up with me.
I'm from Indianapolis and prior to becoming a psychologist I worked in community nonprofit organizations providing support for single mothers and elderly individuals who needed social service assistance.

My experiences working in the field of mental health includes undergraduate and graduate students facing stressors related to academics, interpersonal difficulties and concerns related to families. Developing communication skills so you can express how you feel, addresses a broad range of areas including past trauma(s), and concerns about relationships. I have assisted individuals with diverse identities, many who have experienced marginalization, discrimination, harassment and trauma.

One thing I know for sure is one size does not fit all. It's important that we create a partnership and together we will create your wellness plan. Often individual counseling is not the only tool, it may include exercise, increasing social supports, exploring your connectedness to others, homework assignments and more.

I'm committed to listening, providing a nonjudgmental space and being open and honest with you in your journey.

I am not able to provide after hour emergency services. In our initial meeting we will develop emergency plans in case a crisis occurs. If additional resources are needed, I will help in making the necessary referrals.
