
Dr. Denise Hayes, PHD
Denise Hayes & Associates Counseling and Consultation, LLC is committed to promoting mental wellness and destigmatizing mental illness. We seek to accomplish this through individual, community and organizational services, programs, outreach, and workshops.
Denise Hayes, President, has experience with strategic planning in higher education, retirement communities, and in medical and mental health environments. Critical to organizational assessment is understanding the role of constituents and uplifting the organization’s mission. Assessments and interventions always value the strength of diverse backgrounds, abilities, skills, and experiences.
Dr. Hayes, a licensed psychologist has published articles in the Journal of College Student Psychotherapy, JAMA Pediatrics, Women and Leadership: Research, Theory & Practice and leadership Exchange. She has provided presentations on mental health and wellness, racial trauma, depression, anxiety, and compassion fatigue.
Her commitment to her communities is evident through her engagement in community services and nonprofit organizations. She served as a member and Vice President on the Board of Directors for Pilgrim Place a CCRC, comprised of individuals in a community of persons who have dedicated their lives to improving the lives of others. She is a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. This sorority is an international service organization, founded on the campus of Howard University in Washington, D.C. This organization established by African American college-educated women was founded in 1908. Dr. Hayes is serving as secretary to the Indiana Association of Black Psychologists who focus on destigmatizing mental health and serving as advocates for culturally competent care for African Americans.
Most recently Dr. Hayes has been a reoccurring guest speaker on Indianapolis’ 1310 The Light Community Connections hosted by Tina Cosby. She has provided insights and perspectives on depression, managing stress following the 2024 presidential election, prevention of child abuse.
This Indianapolis native retired as Associate Vice Provost for Health and Wellness at Indiana University, Bloomington, overseeing system wide mental health and wellness initiatives, including but not limited to Counseling and Psychological Services, Student Health Services and the Office of Sexual Violence Prevention and Victim Advocacy. Previously she served as Vice President for Student Services at The Claremont Colleges where she provided leadership for Counseling and Student Services, Cultural Centers, Office of Religious Life among other student serving offices. At DePauw University, Greencastle, IN Denise was Associate Dean of Students and her responsibilities included Diversity Services, Student Health and Counseling Services and Career Services. In summary she is a dedicated professional committed to supporting all aspects of wellbeing including mental health, medical care, cultural and spiritual development.
